About Woodland

Woodland Australian Shepherds is located in Napanee, Ontario and is owned by myself, Makayla Woods. Ever since I can remember, I have been passionate about animals, dogs in particular. I got my first dog at the age of 11, a golden retriever, with whom I proceeded to compete in agility trials, dog sled, trick training, visit schools, nursing homes and much more. From that moment, I was hooked and knew I wanted to have a breeding program of my own.

Aussies are known to be "velcro dogs" which I love and couldn't live without. They are a goofy, fun and extremely loyal breed who love their people. Their versatility is what drew me to the breed initially and we could not imagine life without them. I knew I wanted a medium sized breed that could do it all and that is exactly what I got. I pride myself in producing loving companions that are able to shine in all venues.
I strive to breed dogs true to breed standard that are healthy and have good heads on their shoulders. I truly believe in "Quality over Quantity".

I am very passionate about our breed and the health and happiness of each of my dogs is my priority. My dogs are raised in my home and do not live in kennels. We are active in the conformation ring, dock diving, barn hunt and sprinter events. I love working individually with each one of my dogs, really bringing out their individual potential and creating one on one bonds. I like to keep the number of residents at Woodland lower to assure each one gets their one on one time and loving attention they deserve. Of course the dogs also enjoy the off leash time to run, explore & play on our property that we are so fortunate to have.

Each litter raised is planned with great care and consideration for temperament, health and soundness. The puppies are raised in home, with puppy culture and ENS/ESI. I spend the first 3 weeks sleeping in the same room as them to assure everyone is drinking, warm and comfortable. Pups are also weighed daily for those first crucial weeks to assure appropriate weight gain.

Litters are raised with a strong focus on early development and confidence-building. Puppies are well socialized from the start and introduced to crate and potty training, regular grooming, and nail trims. They experience a variety of puppy-safe activities to help them grow into well-rounded, resilient companions. Each puppy comes CKC registered, microchipped, dewormed, and has had their first vet visit with initial vaccinations. Most importantly, every family receives lifetime breeder support so their puppy can thrive long after going home.

Puppies are placed based on temperament to assure each puppy is going to a home that will suit their individual needs. We do not promise colour as placing pups that will thrive in their new environment with the level of skill/ needs of each new family is far more important.

All of our breeding dogs are at minimum conformation Champions, work towards performance titles and have breed appropriate health clearances, including:
- OFA hips and elbows
- Yearly eye clearances
- DNA tests for Hereditary Cataract, Collie Eye Anomaly, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Degenerative Myelopathy, MDR1
